Daily car hire excess insurance policies

Flexible car hire excess insurance that’s ideal for short trips or those who only need hire cars for small parts of their trip.

If you don’t travel as often as you’d like, we can offer car hire excess policies for a period of your choosing. However, if you plan to hire a car for more than 13 days within a year (10 days if only travelling in Europe), it’s may be better value to take out one of our annual policies.

Daily car hire excess insurance policies provide great cover to reimburse you for a range of charges which may be levied by your rental company (e.g. in the event of damage or theft of the vehicle). To get daily excess waiver from the car hire desk you may have to pay considerably more.

Plus, insurance4carhire works in 24 hour periods making us great value for overnight trips. If you were to pick up your vehicle at 4pm on Tuesday and dropped it off before 4pm on Wednesday, you’d only pay for one day where as some car hire companies would charge you for two.

What's covered? (Features and benefits)

  • Excess on damage and theft: up to £4,000 per claim
  • Covers damage to the windows, undercarriage, roof, tyres and headlights not otherwise covered by damage waivers from car hire companies
  • Lost or stolen baggage: up to £300 per claim
  • Buy up to 62 days' worth of cover at a time
  • You (the policyholder), plus up to seven additional drivers named on your rental agreement
  • Drivers aged 21 to 85 years old (inclusive)
  • Buy now, start your policy up to 364 days in advance

What's not covered? (Exclusions and restrictions)

  • High performance, prestige or exotic vehicles (e.g. supercars such as Aston Martins, Ferraris and Lambourghinis)

Thankfully I haven't had to claim so I am unable to provide feedback on that part. I did purchase the annual insurance cover intending to use it for one specific trip abroad as it was good value compared to what car hire company offered. In fact that week-long trip already paid for itself, I've hired a car twice since and the difference in cost (vs purchasing loss damage waiver from rental company) is quite noticeable.

I have used Insurance4carhire for several years before and renewed it after a short lapse as it is essential to be covered with hire cars. With the best checks of a hire car you will not see everything before you drive off as some companies do not check the cars very carefully from the previous driver.
Thankfully I did not require to use the insurance this time, but it takes the worry out of any problems you can encounter. I rate this firm highly as the modest sum for a years cover can save a large bill in the long run.
