The UK’s most popular car hire excess insurer - Based on online traffic share

Hiring a vehicle? Take out car or van hire excess cover from the UK’s longest-running online provider of car hire excess insurance.

What is Excess Insurance?

An excess is a contribution you have to pay towards a claim made on your insurance policy. Excess insurance is designed to reimburse you for this excess (or contribution).

Car hire companies often charge an excess for damage caused to the car whilst you're behind the wheel - even if it's not your fault. This excess can be upwards of £1000.

With an annual multi-trip or single trip car hire excess insurance policy from insurance4carhire, you'll be able to reclaim the excess you’d have to pay in the unfortunate event of an accident or your car being stolen.

What’s more, with our policies, you could pay less and get more cover compared to buying the excess at the car hire desk. Our car rental insurance policies will reimburse you for charges as a result of damage to the undercarriage, misfueling, towing and so much more. Visit our FAQs page to find out more about our policies.

How Does Excess Insurance Work?

  1. Choose the car rental insurance policy suitable for your destination and trip period
  2. Buy your policy up to 364 days in advance right up to before you go to collect the car
  3. Politely decline any excess insurance offered to you at the car hire desk. You must ensure that your car hire agreement includes collision damage waiver cover unless you are purchasing a Worldwide Plus policy from us and are hiring a vehicle in North or South America

Please note, insurance4carhire policies purchased after the collection of your rental vehicle will not be valid.
